-The old name {{gsw|Zuytngr-Khaf|水返跤||水返腳; lit. "water returning foot"}} refers to the fact that the tide from the Keelung River stops here and goes back to the sea. During [[Taioaan Jidpurn-sitai|Japanese rule]], the place name was changed ({{jid|汐止|Shiodome}}, literally "end of tides"), which is the source of the current name.
