- 1875: officially founded with creation of Taipag Huo (Taipeh Prefecture)
- 1885: work commenced to govern the island as a province
- Toaxtwn was to be the island's capital
- Taipag was designated temporary capital
- 1887: Hokkiexn-Taioaan Serng (Fukien-Taiwan Province) declared
- Taipag was promoted to capital
