Taitiofng Chi

Notes

  • Used to be called Toaxtwn 🔊 (大墩); designated by the Qing as capital of the island (Taioaan-huo 🔊) in 1887.
  • After China lost the Sino-Japanese War in 1895, Taiwan was ceded to Japan by the Treaty of Shimonoseki...that's when they changed the name to Taichū (臺中, meaning "central Taiwan"), hence Taitiofng.
  • Things didn't work out; the capital was eventually moved to Taipag.
