The number 8 (八/捌) can be pronounced two ways in Taiwanese :
- pQeq (poeq, peq) (vernacular)
- pad (literary)
8 (pad) is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture because it = sounds like the word "prosper" or "wealth" (hoad).
