Onomatopoeia exists in a significant number of words in Taiwanese.

• hahaf - laugh

• lengloong (玲瓏 pleasantly crisp or clear sound, for example of jade), lenglioong
• lamlaam - to mutter; to mumble; to murmur
• meq - bleating of a sheep
• piafng - sharp noise; bang; pop
