History

Officially founded in 1875 with creation of Taipeh Prefecture
Ca. 1885 the island's capital was intended to move from Tailaam to Toaxtwn, but was temporarily moved to Taipeh
Taipeh was promoted to capital of the island sometime after 1887 and shortly before Japanese rule, which began in 1895
