Short tones

Short tones (checked tone) in Taiwanese end with h, p, t, or k sounds. In MLT, the high-short tones end with h, p, t, or k, and the low-short tones end with q, b, d, or g.

Almost all non-v-nasalized vowels have a short version, leading to about 30 short finals. About half of v-nasalized vowels can end with h, adding 6 more. See: Table of all MLT finals
