Taioaan-huo 🔊 (臺灣府; Taiwan Prefecture)

  • this prefecture was established by the Qing dynasty government in 1684 to govern the island Taioaan.
  • Taiwan-fu was used in English to refer to the prefectural seat, modern-day Tainan
  • In the late 19th century, Taiwan gained provincial status (officially "Fujian-Taiwan-Province"), and the seat of the island was moved north, ultimately to Taipei
