• Taiwan began cultivating them during the latter part of the Kangxi era (ca. 1700). Produced in all four seasons, but peak production occurs in April through August. In accordance with folk customs, when the company opens market, or candidate runs for office, everybody always brings pineapple out to wish for luck, because besides for eating, it also has the auspicious implication of bringing luck (oxnglaai) in Hokkien.
