History

  • 1875: officially founded with creation of Taipag Huo (Taipeh Prefecture)
  • 1885: work commenced to govern the island as a province
    • Toaxtwn was to be the island's capital
    • Taipag was designated temporary capital
  • 1887: Hokkiexn-Taioaan Serng (Fukien-Taiwan Province) declared
    • Taipag was promoted to capital
