Was the seat of Taitung Prefecture in 1887
Formerly called Zuybøea (水尾 Mizuo in Japanese), referring to the end of Siuokoloankhef
Changed to current name (Jidguo: 瑞穂 Mizuho) due to similar pronunciation in Japanese
