Written Taiwanese usage
Used in Modern Literal Taiwanese. Generally, all the syllables after the backquote symbol are spoken in a weaker tone (either a low-falling tone or a low short tone) and tone sandhi does not apply to the preceding syllable. Examples:
With backquote | Without |
---|---|
kviaf`sie | kviasie |
khuy`khuy | khuikhuy |
Taan`Siensvy | Tan'Thaethaix, Tan'Siøfciar |
