Kiongjiok-huhø (強弱符號 backquote; backtick (`))
Written Taiwanese usage
Used in Modern Literal Taiwanese. Generally, all the syllables after the backquote symbol are spoken in a weaker tone (either a low-falling tone or a low short tone) and tone sandhi does not apply to the preceding syllable. Examples:
