The alphabet for Modern Literal Taiwanese (MLT) consists of 27 letters: all the letters in the English alphabet, plus the Scandinavian ø.

Consonants
- 18 initial consonants: p, ph, m, b, t, th, n, l, k, kh, h, g, c, ch, s, j, z, zh.
- Five are aspirated consonants: ph, th, kh, ch, zh. The last one is called "zheq".
- Most others are pronounced similar to original Latin or in general European languages
Vowels
- The simple vowels are a, i, u, e, o, ø, m and ng.
- y and w are high tone of "i" and "u".
- m and ng can also be consonants: "m-", "-m", "-ng"
