* The city's old name was {{GS|Pangkiøo|枋橋|l. timbered bridge}}, which dates back to the [[Zhefng'tiaau|Qing dynasty]] during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1735 - 1796 AD). A wooden [[kiøo (kauthofng)|bridge]] (locally called  {{GS|Pafng'kiøo'thaau|枋橋頭}}) was built for pedestrians to cross a brook located in the west of today's Banqiao.
