Taiwanese Modern Spelling System (TMSS)
- In 1943, four classmates in Tainan 2nd Middle School started compiling Taiwanese words and assigning spellings for translating English sentences. A spelling rule for Taiwanese words in the Latin alphabet was later found and named the Taiwanese Modern Spelling System.
- Words in TMSS are based on the pronunciation given in the Dictionary of the Amoy Vernacular by Rev. W. Campbell, Tainan, 1913.
