In 1920, the place became Matsuyama Village, named after Matsuyama City in Japan (see Taiwan under Japanese rule). It was a part of Shichisei-gun, Taihoku Prefecture. Matsuyama was merged into Taihoku City in 1938. Now called Songshan in Mandarin.
