The Short Story

  • Orthography developed by Western missionaries in the 19th century and refined by missionaries working in Amoy and Tailaam
  • Uses a modified Latin alphabet and some diacritics to represent the spoken language
  • Became most widespread in Taiwan; in the mid-20th century there were over 100,000 people literate in POJ

Texts

  • Laixgoaxkhøf Kharnhoxhak: (The Principles and Practice of Nursing) a Taiwanese-language human nursing textbook (in POJ). The book was compiled by English M.D. G. Gushue-Taylor and Taiwanese Dua-lor Dan. First published at Tailaam in 1917, and widely regarded as a first work on the subject in Taiwanese.
