hoxkhao (戶口)
- the system of residency permits which dates back to ancient China, where household registration is required by law.
- When Taiwan was under Japanese rule from 1895 to 1945, the Japanese government maintained the same system of household registration (koseki, see hoxzek) as they did in other parts of the Empire of Japan.
